I think this is an interesting question, asked in an interesting time.

It gets to this bedrock question: How much secrecy is too much
secrecy? When do we need to exercise our Constitutional rights and
demand to see what's behind the smokescreen?

Unless it is of UTMOST importance to national security, I think
transparency is the American way -- especially in light of our new
paranoid terrorist atmosphere.

Somebody suggested in this thread that by merely postulating about
this in a public forum the author was asking for government
surveillance. THAT SHOULD SCARE US. Seriously. This is a new form of
public discourse and should be afforded every protection.
