Is there any reason why's this area called 51?
I mean, it could've been easily any other number?
Or, perhaps there's some ominous background
as of this number?
The land that encompasses the Nellis Range, Groom Lake, the
National Atomic Test Center, and other neighboring lands,
were divided up into a series of "areas". If you look up
the various web sites for these places, their maps will show
these various areas. The base at Groom Lake just happened
to be in the area that was marked 51 on the map. They used
these area numbers since there isn't much else to use as
landmarks. There are no cities, rivers, trees, etc. If
I recall, Area 7 was one of the places that was used heavily
for underground atomic testing with nearly 100 shots.
