There is a small astronomy "hut" that is probably for hobby use since
I'm sure the TTR has 10x better gear.

The HF antenna may or may not be for hobby use. It wouldn't be the
first time I've seen serious radio gear and found out later it was the
base ham club.

There is Little Fish Lake nearby, but I haven't been there so I don't
know what it is like, i.e. does it have any fish.

Basecamp may be a place where you do stuff that mixes the military and
contractors, like those planes used by the contractors who snoop on
the Columbia drug cartels.

Here is what I have:

If you investigate the federal band trunk radio systems in the area,
the operation near Groom Lake uses Edacs pro-voice,while the NTS uses
motorola astro. At basecamp, you can only get edacs, so the base is
under groom lake control. However, I have seen trucks go from the TTR
to basecamp.

Any further info on the request to withdraw about 1500 additional acres
around BaseCamp from public use?

I've been wondering about the significance of this "support and recreation"
airstrip. Obviously it could be used as an emergency field for test
aircraft...but no hangars to hide a "sensitive resource" in should one
happen to land there?

As far as recreation, I imagine that some test site personnel are pretty
much imprisoned at work. Maybe BaseCamp is a place to visit with their
families on occasion? They would still be on a short leash, I suppose...

Any thoughts?
