It's probably not one of ours (no stealth). For a typical fighter
size, the plane was probably 12 to 16 miles away, which explains the
poor quality of the photographs. [400mm lens plus 1.4x teleconverter]
This plane flew between sessions of Red Flag on October 12th. It had a
chase plane as well that I neglected to photograph. The plane broke
the sound barrier twice. It flew from Groom Lake to the MOA east of
the base in broad daylight, so there was no attempt to hide the plane,
other than flying very high.
It kind of looks like an F-18E Super Hornet to me. The twin
tails that are canted at an angle stand out when I look at the
photos.
