You'll like the jp2000 image. I set the quality to a level where the
quality of the image itself is the limiting factor. You can see wiggles
in the buildings due to thermals even though I was photographing quite
early in the AM. This is because the magnification is quite high. I'd
like to be able to read the text on the water tower.
BTW, they will be testing MANPADS in March at the TTR. I don't have a
specific date, but I think I can figure out when it is nearly test
time.

March at the TTR is damn cold. Sometimes I think the TTR is colder than
being on Tikaboo.
wonder what kind of missiles they will use for the testing ?
possibly stingers and / or maybe those Russian models that
seem to be all over the place, israeli or ? more interesting would
be seeing those DE weapons in action. I 've seen pictures of them
but never seen one in action. it'd be interesting to collect an
electronic signature of them and find out if they have ( likely )
large ULF / emp emissions too ! better bring your sun tan lotion
and aluminum foil shorts , tho ! ( and hope there are No incidental
reflections off the targets ha ha hah a hah aha ha ha )
that test might be a fun pyro display if you could get close enough
to see any of it. i'd suspect they'd take a lot of trouble to make
sure none of that would be able to be seen from any local public
areas , tho. most that DE stuff is still pretty highly classified
equipment. wonder what kinds of DE they will fire too ?
emp ?, gas lasers or ? WoW , that'd probably be some kewl testing
to watch just from the bleachers ! ( you're practically talk'in
starwars there )
you're right about that weather for sure. I afraid I'm a " fair
weather fisherman " and usually only get out there during
the times when the sierra " passes " are open . if you go , let us
know what you see and get some pictures if possible. ( email them tho,
take care posting them on the web just in case ! h aha haha ha )
it also makes you wonder how many american companies are out there
that have the technical tools and knowledge to do the kind of
evaluation mentioned in that contract bid ? surely it'd take an
extensive knowledge of all types of available manpads and in
addition an extensive knowledge of american military " DE " weapons
would be required . that and add in the needed potential prototype "
MDT " hardware and software issues and you've surely got a " bunch "
of highly classified materials / knowledge / hardware to work with,
to boot. the financial developmental investment would likely be
huge . you'd think a few phone calls would cover " all " of the
potential bidders, but advertizing it seems to suggest a larger array
of potential bidders must be in order. WoW !!! , thats interesting !
