I don't think I want to leave my telescope on Tikaboo all winter, even if I had the automatic gear. Note that this particular hangar can be seen from many spots in the hills, not just Tikaboo. I know security gets sloppy in the winter. I drove up to the front gate once in January just after it had finished snowing. I parked for at least ten minutes without any security presence. They finally sent the chopper, then later the camo dudes showed up. IIRC, they didn't use their normal perches, but rather parked on Groom Lake Road. With the snow on the ground, you could hear their radios crackling, somewhat like the sound effect on Half Life. There is a flag starting at the end of January. January in the ranges can be nasty or nice. You can never predict the conditions. krackula wrote:

So much for the theory of climbing Reveille and looking at the hangar from the other side. Well technically you can't be sure there is a privacy fence all the way across the hidden side (from Tikaboo). This photograph is of the area in question <http://www.lazygranch.com/images/a51pan/september2005/groom_sept2005_hangar19.jpg> miso@sushi.com wrote:http://www.lazygranch.com/images/a51pan/september2005/groom_sept2005_17761x1200.jp2 The wind was pretty nasty when I did this photography, shaking the crap out of the telescope. Still, not a bad panorama. As before, you need a jpeg2000 reader. http://www.irfanview.com/ with the jpeg2000 plug-in. The "privacy" structure looks complete. [Find the tanks on the hill, then look down on ground level and a bit to the left.] It looks like there is something parked near the taxiway connecting the runways. It almost looks like a Predator, but it has no wings.thats interesting , about that privacy fence. for sure that means some juicy stiff is happening there , so much so that they would go through all that trouble to stop you from getting a peek. still , if you wait long enough , they have to move the " what ever it is " from behind the fence or inside the hanger out into plain sight to fly it or what ever they are up to , with what they are hiding. ( probably at night too ) guess the fence means that getting a random casual look , isn't as likely anymore and you actually have to be there when they expose " it " to view during operation and or testing ! oh well ........ guess you'll have to start building your own home made wall penetrating UWB 3d radar now Miso ! make sure you make it back pak able , tho !! ha hhah a ha dagburn it anyway !!!!! how do those guyze expect us to get a " peek " if they keep messing with things like that fence ???? yaya y ya ha h ah hahaa haa maybe you could use the example of deer hunters and install one of those little CCD IR / motion " deer cams " that the hunters use now, but modified for your viewing application and disguised as a bush or large fiberglass rock to avoid detection ! it's gonna get pretty chilly up on that knob this time of the year , and " they " probably won't trot out the good stuff if they see you hang'in up there either. makes things tougher a bit , for sure !
