Wouldn't seeing the airport be a matter of visually clearing the
Papoose Rnage? I'd have to do the math, but at 15k for the plane, 8k
for the mountain and 4.5k for the airport, I think it would be visible
from near 95.

That's what I've typically seen/heard in air comms.
Runway in sight means literally "can see the runway".
I'm confused, in the case of this Sting xmission,
that he was apparently over Mercury or so, or
wherever PLANET is, and says "in sight".
