If you mean Defcon, it's not 2600 related directly. The 2600 crowd runs
their own show called HOPE. But I'm sure 2600 readers go to Defcon.
I wanted to enter the wifi contest, but the winner are so insane in
their quest for distance, that I wouldn't stand a chance.
ha hah hah ah a
friends in japan and singapore say the new 5 gig UWB wifi
equipment is hitting the streets now in limited runs for beta testing.
they say the range with UWB is totally amazing with one base unit
covering an entire small town. dunno how much power the test units
are running but I understand that high power is very easy with uwb,
but unnecessary. they think that UWB will be so much better than
the older ( current ) stuff that when everyone over here sees it ,
they will be stunned with how well it works through walls and in dense
building environments . knowing how the fcc messes with ' our "
stuff , I'm sceptical that it will work as well in the USA versions !
it'll be interesting to see it ....... I want to see what commercial
UWB circuits will look like. spreader chips reduced the RF hardware
quite a lot ( from narrow band technology ) and supposedly UWB is
even simpler and takes even less components ! sounds interesting ,
time will tell !
