They fly blacked out during training, but often have an IR non-flashing
light(s). A camcorder or digital camera might spot this.
In urban areas, you can see the outline of aircraft against the glow of
the sky with night vision. I say a MH60 (or equiv) through night
vision gear during a red flag. The hub of the tail rotor was very
bright with NV.
I've been fiddling with one of those supercircuits ultra low light
CCDs.

One application is to focus on the NV screen. The other is to use the
CCD as a camera all by itself. It's is certainly as good as the cheap
night vision (gen 1)

This 376 and a normal flight on the same map.
Maybe it was a slow day at the TPECR..
Unrelated. I just had a formation of two
UH-60 looking helo's fly over my home.
Generally FROM Luke AFB toward the northeast.
2245 hrs. NO nav lights on either ship.
Do they fly w/o nav lights as part of any kind
of routine mission over urban areas?
