I've used both an IR scanner ( the type the fire departments use in

Aren't they used at close quarters - how do they work at long distances?

welp ... first .... why would you necessarily think of " long
distances " associated with using one of these cameras ?

the one I used had a ( nikon mount ) 150mm lens on the front ...
and even with a lens adapter and a 1000mm cat lens on the front ..
it basically was jammed by all the foreground heat ( even at night )
and didn't work well at long distances ( 15-20 mi , the distance
all the way to the base areas from civilian accessible places )
extremely hot distant objects would show up .... but thats about it.

that being said, there are many interesting things to see / discover
that are less than a couple of miles or so , distant ......... I find
a lot of interesting stuff at those distances. some stuff that is
easy to find are the " hot " bodies of those little green or black
transmitters ( sorta ) buried in the ground ........ the huge ,
thick, steel metal covers on rabbit holes at those random
isolated landing strips ( they usually have about 1 or 2 feet of
dirt over them , but some have stuff glued on them directly to hide
them ) and many metallic covers, hatches, vents debris etc .....
shows up like a search light ..... with huge temp differences from the
natural surrounding desert ground. lots of interesting and fun
stuff to be found that way, especially at night ........

and my own home made laser radar at area 51 and

I'm a little confused by what you mean by "laser radar" to be honest? I
know there's RADAR, and Lasers, but how they work together... not sure?

Oh - just to show how much of a tit I am sometimes - I forgot to lookup
"lidar" before I wrote the above! Goggle is my friend :)

hahahaha .................

were the plumes ( for lack of a better way of saying it )
from many of those hidden tunnel vents

Thats something at least - were you aware of the hidden tunnels before?

yea ........ I found the tunnels , first , by looking at the tracks
easily seen in the web satellite photos . I'd select an array of
interesting likely sites ( closely associated with the base ...
with direct , fresh, tracks into or out of the restricted areas )
........
then I'd spend a few hours or a day or two watching several of them
for the 4 whd pickup trucks ( cammo dudes ? ) or other vehicles
that might regularly patrol areas outside the restricted perimeters.

after I'd find some general areas ... I'd take my IR scope and
some of KTs ( wavebender / kaliber
http://home.comcast.net/~kaliber/2ndmagsite/wavebender2.htm
) em surveillance stuff and go survey the patrolled areas to see why
they were watching / patrolling them . ( I , along with a large
number of other people, helped wavebender during his field testing
of his electromagnetic surveillance devices and still have several
pieces he let me keep ) ( usually quite large areas ).

underground tunnels have a LOT of em signals ..... 60hz .. 400hz
lighting power lines ..... computer lan and cpu hash, electrical
motor noise from pumps, ventilators etc .. and much more ......
making them easy to locate . when you find an area with lots
of underground EM ..... you use the IR scanner to see if there are
out of place IR sigs. it's easy to find the vents .... maintenance
access covers etc.

I'd like to say that cleaver sleuthing and the use of trick em
equipment are the key ..... but .. honestly ....... if you take a
close look at all the fresh vehicle tracks ..... you'd easily find
the exact same stuff . using no equipment at all !!!!
ha ha haah a " they " really don't seem to make much
effort to hide or conceal a lot of what they are doing .........
( the cammo dudes daily activities )

interestingly enough, I've learned that you ( a person ) could
probably discover new and interesting information with these two
tools .... BUT .... it boils down to having the right " stuff " in the
right place at the right time.

Yeah, I think that is a good point.

still ........ after a while ... a lot of vents ... tunnels etc ....
really aren't " all that " ....... not much of a surprise and
because they are underground . not much to see / discover.
it's been there ... done that ......

I wanna see the saucers , grays , betz balls etc ...... ha hah a aha
oh well .........
