Uniden calls their version
Close Call.
Ah ok, yeah I've read a bit about Close Call.
I know, or I should say have read, that Frequency Counters that link with
some scanners, or are stand alone need quite a good signal too. I guess
its the same sort of electronics that drive Close Call.
The deal with a frequency counter is it is very broadband. The
strongest signal will get the count. I think close call and the signal
stalker are looking at the signal at the 2nd IF of the radio. This is
much more bandlimited than a frequency counter. It doesn't get fooled
by a strong FM broadcast station.
I've used the Opto Xplorer, and the Pro-97 under signal stalker is much
better.
The strong signal "requirement" is actually poorly phrased. Rather than
a strong signal, it has to be a dominant signal as the radios and
counters have some AGC (even if only a limiter) to take care of signal
strength. With close call, the signal has to dominate over a smaller
bandwidth.
