More than 1,000 years ago, a mysterious and great Buddhist kingdom of
Guge with its capital, Tsaparang was located on the high Tibetan plateau.
This almost legendary kingdom was situated in the western part of the
Tibetan province of Ngari, about 1200 miles west of Lhasa close to Mount
Kailash. "Ngari" means Top of the Roof of the World.
There, in Zhada County, lived a splendid civilization through the
centuries.
The region in the vicinity of the legendary Guge kingdom is mostly
covered with dry desert and fantastic clay forests extending several
hundred square kilometers. Their shape variety is definitely unique.
Zhada, county town and the ruins of Guge, are surrounded by almost
never ending strange clay forests.
These peculiar forests formed due to erosion and are composed by
clay and sandstone.
Today there are only interesting but inaccessible ruins that cover
an area of 720,000 square meters and lie 3800 meters (12400 feet)
above sea level!
Mysterious Bu-dhist kingdom of Guge is mentioned in ancient Tibetan
myths and famous legend of the lost valley of Shangri-La.
What is so mysterious with the Guge Kingdom?
Probably, the mystery of Guge is connected to its sudden
disappearance.
Not much is known about what did happen to this glorious Tibetan
culture and more than ten thousands inhabitants of Guge. No
descendants survived and with them much of the kingdom's history was
also lost. However there are murals, tunnels and ancient walls
covered with inscriptions and sculptures from the past and this
legacy tells about the Guge Kingdom.
According to the ancient Tibetan historical records and the Annals
of Kings and Officials in Tibet, Guge had totally 16 kings who ruled
the Kingdom until its collapse in the seventeenth century. In its
prosperous time, the Guge Kingdom had a very powerful position in
Tibet and deeply influenced the region's culture and economy. A number
of important Bud-hist doctrines had their roots in the Tibetan
Kingdom of Guge.
After Lang Darma, the last king of the Tubo Dynasty in Guge, died,
it began a critical period in the history of Tibet. With Lang Darma's
death, the Tubo Dynasty began to weaken and Tibet entered a period of
isolation lasting more than 400 years.
All what is left from the glorious time are the ruins of the
kingdom itself and first of all the royal palace where the Guge's
kings lived and ruled the land from there.
The palace, more than 300 meters high, was built is many stages
during a long time between the 10th and 16th century.
But even today its glorious past is still visible.
There is no easy way to come to the palace because it is resting on
the citadel and the only way to reach the ancient seat of Guge kings
is through a labyrinth of passages. There is also another fascinating
monument from the great Guge time. It is the Tholing Monastery
"Tholing" means in Tibetan "hovering in the sky forever". The
monastery, built by the second the great kings of Guge, is the
oldest Buddh-st temple in the region. Its central hall symbolizes
Mount Meru, the highest mountain in Bud-hism.
Yet, Guge Kingdom has much more to offer than only the royal
castle. There are plenty of pagodas, tunnels and caves worth to see
admire even if many of the structures are today destroyed.
The lost kingdom of Guge has still about 1,400 ancient buildings,
30 pagodas, some tunnels leading in all directions and about 900
caves keeping their s-crets. As I mentioned earlier the kingdom's
past is in fact written in different Sanskrit inscriptions, drawings
and Buddha's figures which decorate the extremely porous walls of
the Guge's buildings like the Red and W-ite Temples that occupy an
area of 300 square meters.
Very large rectangular paving stones are also covered with
incantations written in Sanskrit and Tibetan and unique images like
for example those depicting snakes with a human head. Plenty of
frescos, sculptures and colored paintings along with ancient
monasteries and temples constitute a great legacy of the Guge lost
kingdom.
In the northern part of the Guge ruins there are the

Is it a coincidence that the Huashan Caves have the same, exact
position as the the Great Pyramid at Giza, located at latitude 29
58' 51" N (29.9808 degrees N)? This is almost exactly 30 degrees
north latitude with a small deviation of only 01' 09" (2,125
meters) south.
Curiously there are also other famous monuments and structures
around the world raised on the 30 degrees Northern Latitude. The
exact position of the Egyptian monument enable the watching of the
summer solstice, constantly repeating every year and a precise
determination of the solar year length.
For what purpose were the Huashan Caves built? For whom? Did the
unknown builders intend to locate the caves at this particular
latitude?

documented and placed in museums around the world but not all. A
number of artifacts are still protected and guarded by Tibetan
