you can frequently find a used thermal imaging ccd camera on ebay
( the post old gen 3 stuff ) for between $750 and $1500 form time
to time. things that you completely miss in a gen 2 NV are VERY
easily found with this type of device. the difference is shocking.
none of these are bargains ......... but .............

if you had ANY one of these , you'd laugh at and dump your gen2 scope
in a hurry. these are VASTLY beyond anything any gen X scope can do
! these easily see things that are totally missed in any gen x scope
..... most of these can see human foot prints on the ground
( or tire tracks on a road ) l for a while " after " the target has
gone . profound information can be seen with these if used properly.
( use these jacked onto the video input jack of a camcorder
for quick and easy video IR thermal video recording , I often use a
laptop with a video input capture pcmcia card and " Gotacha "
software to a great advantage ) .
THIS is a simplistic example of the VERY fancy hardware found in all
those video cameras you see all over the place ( up on the mountain
towers , on those tripods , wifi link types carried by the cammo
dudes etc. ) ...... the one's they have cost 10s of 1000s more
than a camera like this ...... but this gives you some hint of what "
they ' see daylight and darkhttp://cgi.ebay.com/IR-Thermal-Imaging-Surveillance-System_W0QQitemZ1...
there's night vision and then there is NIGHT VISION . ah hahah a
fun stuff .............

I have one of these. Pair it up with a large aperture c mount lens .
I shot this a few years ago. The raw video was much better.
