Lets do this in reverse, i.e. go
to a known microwave relay site and
see if you can spot the radome.

Sure. Badger Mtn radio facility.
Can't link to it on DLR pages because he's
got the URL's cloaked.

Bald Mtn. The dish with radome on what I
think is the NE corner of the scaffolding.

The Lincoln County phone dish on Mt Irish, pointed
at Rachel.

The Flat Top facility. Which as I understand
is no longer there, was pointed at Mt Irish.

All of those have radomes that look exactly like
what I'm seeing in that area west of Papoose.

I'm not sure what that antenna might be pointing at.
Drawing a line 270 to the map doesn't seem to take
me to anywhere significant. Remember they use a lot
of reflectors here and there around the ranges. So
if that is a dish, pointing 270, it might hit a reflector
angled to CP1 or any of a gazillion other places.

They used to test UAVs in that valley between papoose and
GS700. Perhaps that antenna/facility, whatever it is,
has (had) to do with that.

Maybe it's so the grays can watch ESPN.

Yes. Take out wrenched ankle.

tho some flat panel arrays are used for shorter distances ( couple
of miles or less ) many are capable of large distances and several
types of dishes are commonly used for the longer local hauls for
wifi nets.

I haven't looked at the cords you've mentioned but I suspect you
aren't taking into consideration the extensive localized wifi nets
which have a bunch of smallish and larger dishes sprinkled
everywhere .

if they don't seem to be pointing at anything obvious , then look
a little closer to home !

many nodes of the wifi nets can be a surprisingly large distance ,
with the higher power units having unsuspected abilities.

take a look at my own personal phun toy , along these lines , which I
posted on alt.binaries.radio-scanner . this setup can have an ERP
of nearly 15 watts if I want it to ( depending upon what I use in
the black bag and where I'm powering it up from ) . even at it's
least powerful configuration powered straight from a laptop it has a
ERP of 4 watts ... +37db gain. these use the USB port and have the
wifi card and power amp mounted directly to the radiating element ,
inside the antenna ( to eliminate line loss and obtain maximum
efficiency ) .
( and yes the antenna in the photo has been pixel edited , before
someone goes off about the picture ! )

a new frontier of interesting , generally overlooked , information
is the digital wifi type of signal sleuthing ....... right up there
with having a FM scanner, opto R-10 and other , more traditional,
types of tech toys ! with the right vantage point , signal paths of
30+ miles are easy to achieve ! the highly directional
characteristics of high gain flat panel arrays lend themselves to
accurately pinpointing the network nodes or active digipeaters.
that and make you difficult to locate in return , if you aren't
directly pointed at the ...........

in some places there might even be the case of discovery of totally
unsuspected wifi net connections from locations that you'd never
think were involved or related to interesting activities. this from
high gain antennas completely camouflaged or hidden from view to the
general public ! just a thought , you never know !!!!! yaya ayahah
ah a I have not personally experienced this phenomenon but hear
tell that using this type of equipment , at times,. can bring a (
rather speedy ) highly undesirable HOT response from the choppers.
didn't happened to me tho .. not yet .

( take a moment to carefully consider what kinds of equipment are
using and located as nodes on the many wifi nets !! it's nothing
much to do directly with personal computers or building to building
data conex ! )

k

p.s. ....... take this toy down into town and you can get all the
( phun ) free anonymous high speed internet action you can use.
