most of the pro musicians that I know have ginormous
reference music libraries. ( tho not all of them do )
thought , as a music pro , you might be one of those
music collectors as well. if that was the case, I wondered
what genre you collect .
nowadays , since the music IRCs were closed down , most people get
their " free " music ( for their collections ) from the huge free web
based streaming music industry that has sprung up to take the place
of the missing IRC free music channels.
for me , I was kinda stuck in the oldies rock - blues genre ( for
decades ) until this streaming music thing started up and I
discovered that I liked a couple of entirely new additional genre of
music , one that didn't even exist a few years ago. I've suddenly
started kinda liking some of the " focused " genre of afro -
caribbean music ( the westin hotels theme " unwind " for example
) and ambient chill. there are astonishingly creative new
musicians that one would not have access to if it weren't for the
advent of web based free streaming MP3s. that , and many of the
dozens of newly created spun off genres are simply amazing !
the way the music industry is unfolding and expanding ( due mostly to
the availability of global broadband web ) is almost overwhelming.
I'm really glad I got to experience this phenomena in my own lifetime
!
