This is the Groom Lake security helicopter photographed at basecamp.
The image was tweaked quite a bit so that the tail number can be seen.
Photo taken 9/17/2007.
Since you have no responses to your latest posting, I thought I should
let you know there is at least one person who appreciates them. I live
in New England without as much chance of visiting Nevada as hitting the
lottery so I have to I have to learn about Area 51 vicariously through
postings like yours. Thanks.
Glad you liked it. This photo is more proof that basecamp is part of
the Groom Lake operation, though it is also used by the CIA. Nobody is
quite sure what the Groom boys do there, other than maintain Haligan
Mesa. [That could easily be maintained from Tonopah, which is just
down the road.]
My last visit was rather brisk due to security being on my ass in less
than 3 minutes. Had I not had photo-interuptus, I would have done a
better job. It was so dark that I had to rest my camera on the back of
the SUV to steady the shot. I was using a 400mm lens at around 1/100th
of a second.
Unlike the camo dudes, Basecamp security will interact with you. There
isn't much they can do since that is a public road going down the
middle of the base. I guess the USAF still uses it for whatever
because the location is so remote that few people bother to snoop on
it.
