I sure have had that experience before - I do what I'm told and always
call them sir - which is so unlike my normal style.
I guess it all depends upon what your relationship with them is ,
your position in the bureaucratic food chain , so to speak !
Getting back to pay. The pay you get is relative to the cost of
living - I guess most 'cammo dudes' live is Las Vegas, but what is the
cost of living like in LV?
think the LV C.O.L is about on par with Bakersfield , Phoenix,
and Bosie at about 104 - 106 , well under places like L.A. ( 116 ) ,
S.D ( 119 ) and surprisingly Reno ( 111 ). remember that
Nev has no state tax , which helps a lot ! LV is a sprawling mess,
I wouldn't want to live there. I have to go there a lot as it is.
I don't know if this is still good info, was in the last year or so
!
Civil Service is famous for under paying it's workers. You don't see
many wealthy retired civil servants. vendors and contractors
always have to be less expensive ( services cost or pay wise )
to be able to justify their contract awards. there are spotty
exceptions in both cases, here and there, depending ( perhaps ) upon
the job skill levels or types of services provided.
the well known gravy train CSRS retirement was replaced ( a long
while back ) by the stupid 401k style FERS and the less senior
employees fare far worse then their more senior counter parts
that had and kept CSRS . they don't even get to take ( fully funded )
health and life insurance benefits out with them these days. times
have really changed .
wonder what those new homeland defense boys get pay wise
and benefits ?? they are so aloof driving around in those unmarked
white crown victorias , wearing those snappy brown SS outfits ! maybe
the government gold is hidden in their coffers , though I doubt it !
what's wrong with driving a small multi fuel economy car from the
interagency motor pool like everybody else ?? go figure.
