Sitting in my 4th Grade Class listening to the teacher as she did a daily read from,
"How the West was Won", when the Principal entered and announced JFK had
been shot and we were all to go to the Library which was where the sole 19inch
B&W TV was located. We watched coverage until an early dismissal was given
and we went home. Several days later I stood with my folks on Constitution Ave.
with many thousands of others to watch the Caisson go by. I still remember the
almost total silence as it went past; You could hear how the horse's hooves were
muffled.
