I got an email regarding your post on DLR. I don't believe there are
any hams on the board now. Anyway, I could have sworn I explained this
before, but here goes. All you can reach from the ET highway are the
repeaters on Angel's Peak. My recollection is I could only reach one
of the 440 repeaters with a FT50 on high power and a Diamond RH77 sma
antenna. On Tikaboo, you have more options.
These guys claim that list is updated. I never got any of the Tonopah
repeaters to work, but haven;t tried lately since Tonopah has phone
service. I've been on the Warm Springs Summit and never found any ham
gear there.
I think the only thing these guys update is the date on the page. ;-)
Incidentally, AES ham will give you this list. They also sell a Vegas
frequency list, though the military coverage wasn't good when I looked
at it.
They do a Saturday morning ham swap meet at AES. I've never been to
it, but I have a friend in Vegas who goes there since it is the closet
thing to an electronics flea market outside of "the valley" where he
used to live. IIRC, you were from LA so you know about the TRW meet.
BTW, the power lines will be ugly with 2wd. There are two sections
with steep climbs and one with a pretty high lump in the center. The
rocks will be hard on street tires .The only good news it won't be
much of a hike to the road should you have problems.
