Looks like the ranch is more like
35°51'34.46"N 117° 5'18.15"W.
Difference is about 140 feet.
I think you would be closer to China Lake
from the town of Ridgecrest,
though I don't know what you can see.
You could see the base chapel, bowling alley,
school etc. Ridgecrest/China Lake is the base (public) town.
The NWC is pretty spread out.
N and SE of Ridgecrest.
Borders Ft Irwin on the east edge.
The little pockets of military activity
in the SE area of the base look a lot like
the stuff around Tolicha Peak and that area.
Small installations that look highly specialized
for whatever kind of measurements they do at
that particular spot.
Example -
35.5222N 117.305W
Root around that neighborhood and you'll see
plenty of targets, radomes, strips, pads etc.
Here's some familiar stuff -

More familiar stuff, north of Ridgecrest -
36.0328n 117.508w
RCS is up there somewhere.
