Thanks for the info on gear. Yes, I do need to upgrade my gear. I
just approach this whole thing with a different attitude. I am not
real concerned with any of my photos ending up anywhere else. I have
seen a few shots I took on different sites. I could care less. I am
not competing with anybody. I was shocked early on when I was ripped
left and right for mentioning my site on another forum. I understand
they put a lot of money into their sites and copyrighted photos in
their minds are really important. But to ban people from forums and
not allowing websites dealing with Area 51 to be mentioned is over the
top in my book. The other thing that is amazing to me is the way
people who consider themselves experts are so damn critical of each
other. I admit my knowledge regarding the technical aspects of what
goes on at Area 51 is very limited, so to hell with all the self
appointed experts. They only make themselves look like jerks. You
have been about the most honest and valuable source of info I can find
to discuss Area 51 topics with, but if I get a video of an alien
working on the new triangular tower at Groom, I might have to go
elsewhere with the photo. Clark County is very cheap as far as
licenses are concerned. As far as making any money taking people out
there, not really that great. I have come nowhere near what I put
into it. Lets say I get somebody for a tour and it is only one
person. $150 is what they pay. I spend about $60 in gas. I give
them a ground sample that I made and an alien in a bottle key chain
for about $5. I pay for the alien burger at the Little A Le Inn for
about $7 with a drink. I also pack an ice chest full of snacks and
drinks for the trip at about $25. I am lucky to clear maybe $50
profit. Like the rest of us, I only do the tours for fun and it is a
great excuse to get out there. I take the family out more often then
I give tours. The gear I have now usually works just fine for taking
photos of stuff near the border areas, but I definitely need to invest
in something more powerful for Tikaboo. Those two areas under
construction really are interesting. The new satellite photos are
great as well.
