Here are the gloves. Really a rip, but REI never has deals:

I have a wool/leather pair that I've had for
40 yrs. They're not REI's but someone else's.
Start IVs, fire a Baretta, write, type all
without removing the things.

Do the thumbs uncover in those REI brand?
My wool pair does. Gives us opposing first toe
antropods the ability to grasp while keeping
our pods warm.

I use them maybe 3 days out of the year here
in Phoenix. Opening and closing steel horse
pens at night in the desert is REALLY cold
on the fingers.

Negative to baring the thumb. I can see the use in freeing the thumb.
These must be made elsewhere. I was just leaving for the range once
when it was cold and I got them for the trip.

I've seen people just dying in the central Nevada cold and cut their
trip short. Much to the chagrin of the dudes, when I took the photos
that revealed the baldie cam moves, it was done in the winter.

You really have to prep for these trips, especially in the winter. Not
only do I bring wood, I carry one of these:http://www.silkysaws.com/Silky-Hand-Saws/Silky-Folding-Hand-Saws/BIGB...
Japanese steel. Just lovely. If you don't want to bring or buy wood,
the road around Tempiute is a good place to get wood. There is also a
spot on the west side of the ET Highway. They sell wood as R-Place.

I definitely prep better for the winter trips out there. I go so
often, sometimes I forget how dangerous it could be out there. I
don't have a 4wd. I have some wonderful pep boy chains, that is why I
don't go fooling around on GLR in the snow. I throw in a few presto
logs, my favorite knife, some blankets, water, my Taurus 357, some MRE
I took from the USMC before I got out. I would probably take my
chances and try to eat one of Steve's cows before an MRE! The most
useful thing I take would be toilet paper. My wife especially is
thankful for that. It was actually funny the other day telling her
that the Cameras on Bald Mtn. were zooming in on her as she tried to
find a Joshua Tree that could block the line of sight from Bald Mtn.
She really is a good sport putting up with so many trips to the
range. I am actually shocked she enjoys sitting and driving around
looking at nothing! Here is a photo of my new friend from England.
He is very good natured about his turban. He is Sihk and gets very
upset when he gets lumped into the whole Taliban Osama crowd. He was
actually a bit nervous how security would react to his appearance.
The security sure followed him with that main camera at the back
gate. Silly "cammo dudes"! He is actually a REAL police officer in
England! The best thing about taking people out to Area 51, is that
so far everybody has been so nice. People from Europe and Australia
really have a genuine interest in Area 51. Every time I say I am
going to quit doing tours, I end up taking great people like the
couple on Friday. It is definitely not worth the money and effort.
The reward truly has been talking about Area 51 with great people.
Learning about different parts of the world. Most of all, getting to
experience with them the first time seeing the cammo dude and the
warning signs. We all can remember that first time. What an awesome
experience!
