Does anybody have a good map of that area that connects with the
Rachel Gate?. I would love to find a good map online that shows that
area of the range. Thanks
The answer is maybe. Try this:
Go tohttp://download.cnet.com/Garmin-MapSource/3000-2053_4-14890.html
Install mapsource.Then go to
http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/state/nv/
Download Nevada Topo
The USGS map has all the roads, though not exactly in the right
location. The maps are pretty old.
I did a quick gpx file with two routes since I don't completely
understand your question. One is from the Boxcar dropzone. Monotony
Valley is eventually on the range, so there is a gate. The last time I
drove the road the warning sign was knocked over. The other way to get
there would be from the Catcus gate. All that said, my money would be
on the traffic using the Juniper pass coming from site 4. If you camp
out in the high elevations on the east side of the ET Highway, you can
see cars drive over that pass. At one time I thought I was seeing
lights from low level flights to the base, but I did a time exposure
and determined they were just cars going over the pass. A day
excursion probably won't catch cars on this route. You need to do a
stake-out, preferably with a steak on the BBQ.
I made a gpx file of the routes. It will open in google earth , though
you have to tell GE to look for gpx files rather than kml or kmz.http://www.lazygranch.com/temp/cedar2valley.gpx
Firefox insists on showing the text of a gpx file. You may have to
copy it and paste it to a file using notepad.
The Garmin website says it has to see a garmin file in order to load
mapsource. Since I have Garmin files, this wasn't an issue for me.
Thanks, I will give it a try. I was just looking at exploring past
Rachel. I have not traveled much farther than Rachel.
