I must say those foreign built tires handled much better than I ever
could have imagined.  Snow tires and chains are for wimps!

Hey, you drive the range long enough in street tires, and you will get
a flat. Even with SUV tires, though it's less likely. BFG's have the
most plies, but the ride is nasty. I use Yokohama Geolanders. They are
unique enough that someone in Rachel knew where I was strictly by the
tracks I've left. That doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy feeling,
though the cops in theory can do the same kind of analysis.

Before they had Geolanders in my size, I was using Bridgestone Dueller
Revos. Really a poor performer. I nearly got stuck in some socal loose
sand, and that was with 4WD.

Those who rent 4WD in Vegas will get street tires too. Technically, no
rental is approved for off-road use. That said, I was at the Power
Line Overlook once when a compact car drove up with the spare donut
(half size) in use. They blew a tire in Death Valley going to the
Racetrack. The Power Line Overlook isn't much better of a trip. I'd
like to see the undercarriage of that car.
