There was a photo circulated via email of the F117as in the barn. I don't know if it is on the internet, and I don't know who took it. However, it looked like the real thing to me.http://www.patricksaviation.com/photos/HiTop/24701/Interesting. Thank you both!Looking around this morning after reading miso's OP, it seemed as if there was some question as to whether the wings and tail were designed to be removable, presumably so the plane could be loaded into a C-17 or maybe C-5. The photo above indicates that's likely to be true, no?They were probably transported to Det 3/Groom Lake, and then later Tonopah that way, by C-5 from the Lockheed factory at night. I think Travis AFB has some C-5 crews specially designated to take certain cargo from places like Skuny Works, out to the ranges.
Way back in the dark ages, there was quite a posse who would try to shoot what Lockheed was loading on the C-5 out of Palmdale or the Skunk Works. I used to drive by and when there was a C-5 there was usually something being loaded up at night. Covered of course.
