This talks about reading tree rings.

........................................................
........................................................

The ideas presented above might fit in the realms of philosophy
and science fiction rather than physics unless there were some
observational supporting evidence. A literature search was
conducted to determine whether there is a kinematical
discontinuity in stellar proper motion depending upon star
surface temperature and occurring in the stellar spectral
classes for which molecular lines and bands appear.

Since the 1950's, such a discontinuity has in fact been
recognized. Dubbed Parenago's discontinuity, it refers to the
fact that red, cooler stars have faster motions in the direction
of galactic rotation than do blue, cooler stars.

Although it is provocative that Parenago's stellar velocities
around the galactic center increase with molecular abundance in
the stellar photosphere, this paper does not claim to prove
stellar consciousness as an alternative to dark matter. There
are many other more conventional alternative explanations for
anomalous stellar kinematics that must be considered as well.

But the validity of some of the assumptions presented here will
be confirmed if future work demonstrates that PK effects can be
reliably repeated in a laboratory environment. Other assumptions
will be validated if future nano-scale computers achieve some
level of consciousness when the size of computing elements
reaches molecular levels.

If stellar consciousness can be demonstrated to be a reasonable
dark matter alternative, major challenges will be presented to
the SETI community. How exactly do we communicate with
conscious, possibly sentient entities with lifetimes so long
that a century seems like a second? And if we can't do this
successfully, how do we prevent the catastrophic w-rs between
planetary and stellar intelligence in Star Maker as human
interplanetary capabilities mature?

Mysterious Radiation Burst Recorded in Tree Rings

Spike in carbon-14 levels indicates a massive cosmic event -
but supernovae and solar flares ruled out.

Just over 1,200 years ago, the planet was hit by an extremely
intense burst of high-energy radiation of unknown cause,
scientists studying tree-ring data have found.

The radiation burst, which seems to have hit between ad 774 and
ad 775, was detected by looking at the amounts of the
radioactive isotope carbon-14 in tree rings that formed during
the ad 775 growing season in the Northern Hemisphere. The
increase in 14C levels is so clear that the scientists, led by
Fusa Miyake, a cosmic-ray physicist from Nagoya University in
Japan, conclude that the atmospheric level of 14C must have
jumped by 1.2% over the course of no longer than a year, about
20 times more than the normal rate of variation.

"The work looks pretty solid," says Daniel Baker, a space
physicist at the University of Colorado's Laboratory for
Atmospheric and Space Physics in Boulder, Colorado. "Some very
energetic event occurred in about ad 775."

Exactly what that event was, however, is more difficult to
determine.

The 14C isotope is formed when highly energetic radiation from
outer space hits atoms in the upper atmosphere, producing
neutrons. These collide with nitrogen-14, which then decays to
14C. (The fact that this is always happening because of
background radiation is what produces a continuous source of 14C
for radiocarbon dating.)

The only known events that can produce a 14C spike are floods
of gamma rays from supernova explosions or proton storms from
giant solar flares. But neither seems likely, Miyake says,
because each should have been large enough to have had other
effects that would have been observed at the time.

A massive supernova, for example, should have been bright
enough to produce a 'new' star visible even in the daytime, as
was the case for two known supernovae in ad 1006 and ad 1054.
Such an explosion would have needed to be brighter than either
of these, Miyake says, because those events were not large
enough to leave traces in the 14C record.

It is possible, she says, that the proposed event might have
occurred in the far southern skies, where astronomers of the era
wouldn't have seen it. But still, she says, if it did happen,
today's X-ray and radio astronomers should have found signs of a
"tremendously bright" remnant of the explosion.

As for solar flares, she says, anything that could have
produced the required amount of super-high-energy protons would
have vastly exceeded the most intense solar outburst ever
recorded. There should have been a historical record of
extraordinary auroras - not to mention that such a gigantic
flare would probably have destroyed the ozone layer, with
devastating ecological consequences.

Baker, however, thinks that Miyake's team may have been too
quick to rule out a solar flare. Flares are sometimes associated
with coronal mass ejections (CMEs) - huge eruptions of
magnetically charged plasma from the Sun's atmosphere that send
streams of charged particles towards Earth. It might be
possible, he says, for CMEs to be accompanied by conditions in
which an unusual number of protons are accelerated to super-high
energies, even without the flare itself being "ridiculously
strong".

"We know much more these days about how important proton
acceleration is at the shock fronts that precede CME structures
as they propagate towards Earth," Baker says. "I would like to
think about whether a strong CME moving directly towards Earth
could have produced the intense proton population that impacted
Earth's atmosphere."

"It would be fascinating," Baker adds, "if there were some
record in China or in the Middle East that reported powerful
aurora or some other such event" around the same time as the
observed 14C increase.

Farmer Blames Heat Rays for Cows' D-aths

RCMP officer assured Werner Bock that aliens are not flying
over his farm.

A cattle farmer from the Petitcodiac area is facing a charge
for failing to give his cows adequate medical attention but he
argues there is a co-spiracy against him that involves heat rays
harming his animals.

Werner Bock is charged with failing to give his cows adequate
medical attention but he told a Moncton provincial court on
Monday that someone is after him and his animals.

Bock accuses the RCMP and veterinarians of ignoring what's
happening on his eastern New Brunswick farm.

He said he's lost up to 200 animals in the last 10 years and
he's posted a video on the internet where he claims to expose
the mystery. The farmer says heat rays are to blame for his
cows' deaths.

Bock goes on to say the authorities are refusing to take him
seriously about the heat rays.

"This was covered up by the veterinarians and then it was
covered up by the RCMP," he said in a video.

The video also shows pictures of thin cows that are losing
their hair.

In a pre-trial meeting on Monday, Bock tried to subpoena three
provincial veterinarians and three RCMP officers to testify.

Provincial Court Judge Jolene Richard noted two of the
individuals will already be testifying. But they will be
testifying against Bock as witnesses for the prosecution.

As for the others, the judge said she wasn't sure how relevant
they would be to the trial.

Bock wants to call a veterinarian who found no evidence of
burns on his cows.

He also wants to call a po-ice officer he says assured him
there were no aliens flying over his farm.

The trial will be held in September.

Cattle Mutilations and the Go-ernment
By Nick Redfern

Mentioning to many of the leading lights in the field of so-
called "Cattle Mutilations" the idea that the admittedly weird
phenomenon might have far more to do with the the work of a
clandestine group in gover-ment or the mi-itary than it does
with black-eyed aliens from some far away galaxy, is likely to
result in a response of an overwhelmingly negative and defensive
nature. Belief (particularly of the Mulder-like "I want to
believe" variety) is a very powerful tool when it comes to
concluding this or that is linked to the UFO puzzle. And that
goes for cattle-mutes, too.

But - say the full-on believers in the theory that E.T. like to
chow down on a nice tasty steak now and again - if not the
aliens, then who else could be responsible? For the most part,
they scoff at the idea of predators, cults and the gover-ment
(the latter being "them" in paranoia-land) as the culprits.

The fact of the matter, however, is that - for decades, no less
- various official bodies have taken a clandestine and concerned
interest in animal dea-hs and injuries all across the U-ited
States. But not for reasons relative to the actions of menacing,
meat-loving extraterrestrials. Nope, the reasons are much
different and, in many ways, far more disturbing. We're talking
about shadowy figures sabotaging the food-chain via deliberate,
terr-rist-style actions and officialdom's se-ret and sometimes
panicky attempts to stop it.

Think I'm wrong? Think the governm-nt could not keep - and
still isn't keeping - a careful and secr-t watch on the U.S.
cattle population for reasons of a national se-urity nature? If
you do, it's time to think again. Read on.
