Something we can agree on.  So let's also agree that with regard to the
people
who are "doing" UFOs, we should not properly call them "UFO researchers"
but
instead "collectors of anecdotes".

Something doesn't have to be a science to be able to be researched. And,
since one who researches is called a researcher, the title still applies.
UFO researches do more than "collect anecdotes". They collect data,
statistics, and the like in a well defined, scientific manner. That makes
them no different than any quantum physicist researching a theory that has
never been proven but has some evidence of existence.
