Forgive me for being skeptical, Tim, but is there any special reason why
I should trust you? The military lied about stealth. It lied about the U2. It
lied about the Blackbird. It lied about Area 51; and the special programs
I have mentioned had fifteen or so years of denial before 
their existence was announced. It seems clear
that the military has a grand old tradition of lying, in fact they are on
record as admitting it - not only that, but admitting that the old lies are not 
working any more and that's why new programs of disinformation should
replace them.

The government is by no means clueless, like you seem to imply -
but they work damned hard to make sure that people like you and me 
remain clueless where issues of National Security are concerned.

of compartmentalisation? what is military intelligence for, if not for 
ensuring that compartments remain watertight?
          Of course you can keep secrets.The ability to keep a secret is in 
direct proportion to the gullibility of the people you are keeping it from,
and if you are experienced in manipulating people with disinformation,
that helps; that's why you have psychological operations, Psyops.
          Remember Mussolini's comment that if you repeat a lie often
enough, it becomes a reality. When you look around you and see a lot
of clueless people, that's in part because the propaganda they are
drip-fed with is working just fine, and they haven't got the time or
inclination to question it.

No, never make the mistake of thinking the government is stupid.
Corrupt, certainly. Unethical, definitely. Capable of crimes against
humanity? 'fraid so; but clueless, no way.

You may be a OK regular guy who knows nothing, like you seem
to make out, bewildered by what you deem to be a lot of fuss about nothing; 
could be you are right, maybe not.
      Alternatively, you may be functioning in military mode and doing exactly what you are
expected to - without question.
            It's not you I don't  trust, particularly,Tim; it's the faceless guys at the top of the ladder,
the apex of this pyramid of compartmentalisation I refer to, just
like the one hovering above the globe on the Total Information Awareness website, 
with the all-seeing eye inside it., that is, before they hastily snatched it away.

Of course, we have your word for it, there is no government conspiracy, so we
paranoid kooks can all go home and rest easy, right? no problem!
