Quite possibly !   There are a bunch of high-power isotope sources
that went missing around there. I can't rememebr what they were, but
it was some geophysical purpose.

Unrecognisable hi-tech things that appear to generate energy are
_very_ scary. A lost source is a much higher likelihood than a UFO
part, and rather more worrying.
