Hi people
I used to hang around and read this group about what, 4 years ago now?
I gave it up and got distracted by doing other things, but just recently
I've enrolled in a philosophy unit at university level and have been
called on to do a presentation on UFOs.
I'm looking for references to serious material regarding UFOs and related
material, especially if it comes in a philosophy framework.
Any suggestions, ideas, whatever most welcome.
To give you some idea of what I'm working on, I'm currently working on
a structure something along the lines of:
1) Definition of terms.
1.1) UFO -> Exists by definition. Any unknown object in the sky. QED.
1.2) AUFO -> Anomalous UFO that cannot be easily explained.
1.3) OAE -> Observation of an anomalous event.
2) Scientific framework for AUFOs (Objective)
2.1) Unusual phenomena -> ball lighting, saint Elmo's fire, meteors, etc.
2.2) Unusual aircraft -> satellites, impulse aircraft, WWII flying saucer craft.
2.3) Errors in perception (physical) -> mirages, holograms, sun spots.
3) Psychological framework for AUFOs (Subjective)
3.1) Altered state of consciousness -> ultra sound effects, etc.
3.2) Errors in perception (mental, external) -> hallucination, projection, etc.
3.3) Errors in perception (mental, internal) -> sleep paralysis, dreams, etc.
4) Discussion of OAEs
4.1) OAEs are not observable (discussion of nature of observation)
4.2) Verification of OAEs -> Physical, mental
4.3) Discussion of non-verifiable OAEs.
4.4) Explanation of verified OAEs in scientific framework (category 1).
4.5) Explanation of verified OAEs in psychological framework (category 2).
4.6) Explanation of verified OAEs that don't fit (category 3)
5) Exploration of category 3.
5.1) Expanding the scientific framework (forteans, probability, quantum stuff
and probabilistic unity in black holes).
5.2) Expanding the psychological framework (hypnosis, spiral theory (psych
stuff), understanding of reality and consciousness).
5.3) OAEs that refused to be resolved.
5.3.1) Brief discussion on topics of aliens / other beings.
5.3.2) Brief discussion on topics of anomalous physical remains.
5.3.3) VERY brief discussion on human / alien interactions (there remains
entirely too little to talk about here given my extremely skeptical
tutors).
6) Concluding statements.
So yeah, any references to any section of that (or places you feel I'm
leaving open and not talking about that are important...), please, drop
a line here.
(My presentation will be between 30 and 60 minutes long; including
discussion; obviously this is only a brief cover of the material).
Its pretty obviously, but I'll say anyway; don't mail responses. The email
address attached is fake for anti-spam reasons.
Well... cya.
Doug.
