I'm sorry to have to report that Lord Hill-Norton died on Sunday, aged 89. [May 16, 2004]

Admiral of the Fleet The Lord Hill-Norton G.C.B. was a former Chief of the Defence Staff and Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, who in his later years became greatly interested in the UFO phenomenon.

His long and distinguished naval career included active service on Arctic convoy duty during the Second World War, command of a destroyer during the Suez Crisis, and a later posting in command of the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal.

His interest in UFOs came after his retirement, and he wrote forewords to a number of Timothy Good's books, including Above Top Secret and Unearthly Disclosure. He was particularly interested in the Rendlesham Forest incident, and worked with Georgina Bruni on this. He asked her to draft some questions which he subsequently tabled in Parliament, trying to elicit an official response to what he felt were a number of important defence and national security issues raised by the events.

I briefed him on several occasions, which could be quite challenging. Many staff officers and journalists found him difficult, especially if they didn't quickly get to the point. He was passionate about the Royal Navy, UFOs and a wide range of other subjects. When I called on him last summer, on my way back from a holiday, I found him as lively as ever. He had taken an interest in a UFO sighting involving military witnesses on HMS Manchester and had asked me to update him. He told me that despite the frustrations, he intended to remain involved in ufology for as long as he was able.

Lord Hill-Norton appeared in several UFO documentaries and was frequently quoted on the subject in the media. Again, he could be quite outspoken and was often highly critical of the Ministry of Defence's policy on the UFO phenomenon. Those list members in the UK will be able to see what I believe was his last TV interview on UFOs next Wednesday evening, on Channel Five's new documentary, The British UFO Files.

Lord Hill-Norton was a great friend to ufology, where the active support of someone of his rank was without precedent. He will be sadly missed.

#3. How To Keep UFOs Secrets From The Public (By C.A. Honey)

Over the years I keep hearing one particular comment over and over again. It is usually to the effect that it is impossible to keep information such as the identity or reality of UFO's secret for any short period of time, let alone for years. Let's refute this erroneous information right from the start.

Shortly before the end of World War II the final stages of the atom bomb were completed, resulting in the end of the war against Japan. The atom bomb development was kept secret even though many people were involved and development was completed within range of thousands of people. The laboratory was actually built within the structure housing the stands at the site of many sports events. Spectators were literally sitting on top of the bomb, so-to-speak, without anyone knowing what was going on below them. That incident alone proves that if a secret is supposed to be kept, it is possible to do so. In the case of the atom bomb development about 150,000 people were involved. This included the scientists designing the bomb, the technicians assembling various components, and the military people involved in enforcing secrecy. But what about any USA involvement with UFO secrecy?

#5. An Evil Presence (by Carol)

One night my husband and I were reading the Scriptures in bed. We both had our Bibles and were reading quietly side by side when my husband looked up and said, "I demand you to depart in the name of Jesus Christ." Well, my heart nearly stopped because my husband was always a non-reactionary person - someone who did not believe in the unseen world of spirits or metaphysics, but did believe in the Bible's admonishment to call out to the presence of evil spirits by saying what he did: "I demand you to depart in the name of Jesus Christ."

I looked around the room, wondering what would provoke him to make such statement. I asked him what was wrong and he said, he felt a strange and evil spirit in the room (he'd never done this before, ever!) So, I suggested that he call our neighbor next door, who was also a member of our church, to come and have a prayer with us. Well, it was about 10 o'clock at night, not something I really felt was warranted, but thought I'd offer it as an option for my husband to get some comfort where he clearly had none at the moment. I was surprised that he called "Joe" and asked him to come over. Joe said he'd pray about whether to come over or not and within minutes he was knocking at the door. Well, my husband felt a little embarrassed since nothing was happening, so Joe prayed with us a short prayer, and went home.

#6. Ghost at the U.N. (by Jon B.)

Back in the late 1960s my mother worked at the U.N. in New York as a secretary in an adjacent building that was part of the larger complex. She worked in an area that was once part of a large conference hall, but was later divided up to make room for offices and now only a small portion of it was a conference room with two large double doors that led into the large conference space.

One night, while working late all alone, she began to hear a low sound of the clinking of glasses, like a cocktail party, but very faint and seemed to come from behind the large double doors. The hallway leading up to the conference room was dark, and there were no planned parties. Although cocktail parties were commonplace, there would have never been one in the conference hall, and certainly none if all the hall lights to the main doors were dim.

She soon went back to work finishing up for a few more minutes when she then heard a rush of applause like a full room was applauding at a speech from down the hall toward the two large doors, like it was coming through the auditorium walls. Then just faded.

SIMKIN: At the end of the Japanese archipelago lies Yonaguni, shrouded in mist and mystery. The adults sing of their island's beauty while the children are told legends of its past - stories about a mysterious castle underneath the sea.

JAPANESE SINGING: A long time ago, a man called Taro Urashima was taken to the Sea God's palace by a turtle he had rescued. The beauty of the underwater palace could not be described, even in heaven.

SIMKIN: It's an image that has a special place in Okinawan legend. For centuries, stories about underwater cities have appeared in song and story passed down from generation to generation.

JAPANESE WOMAN: Our grandfathers often said that the sea surrounding Yonaguni Island was very deep. When I was at primary school and first heard the stories of the Sea God's palace and Taro Urashima, I used to wonder if there was a Sea God's palace close to Yonaguni Island.

#9. Leah Haley Captivates Audience at May�s MiMUFON Meeting (by David E. Twichell)

Leah Haley proved to be a fascinating speaker at the May MiMUFON meeting in Flint, MI. Leah is a CPA with two masters' degrees from Tennessee. She is an alien experiencer and the author of Lost Was The Key, Ceto's New Friends and, her latest, Unlocking Alien Closets: Abductions, Mind Control, and Spirituality. (Greenleaf Publications.) In her latest book, Leah takes the reader into the life and mind of an alien abductee. She shares her struggle to cope with her unusual experiences and relates her attempts to understand how aliens, UFOs, mind control, and the government cover-up are related to God, the Bible, and spirituality.

Her experiences have a familiar ring with which most experiencers can identify. However, it would appear that our own government plays a more prominent and aggressive role in her life than most as a result of the abductions.

In the 1960s Leah, her brother and a neighborhood friend watched as a UFO descended from the sky and landed in the woods near her home in Gardendale, just north of Birmingham, Alabama. Later, they went out to the woods to investigate but found no evidence of a landing. She knows now that she had been abducted as a child but it wasn�t until the 1990s that she began to have conscious memories of the events.

#10. Abduct My Wallet: Confessions of a UFO Hoaxer (By Lee Shargel)

The Aliens are coming! The Aliens are coming! Folks don't believe it. The only aliens that are coming are sneaking under a fence somewhere along the Texas border. How can I be so sure? Well, for one thing we've caught a few of them and they don't have tentacles, ray guns or flying saucers. What they do have is bad breath, bad directions and a pocket full of jallopenos. Sorry, no mystery here.

In 1996, I wrote a science fiction novel entitled "Voice in the Mirror." It was a fictional story about the discovery of life on another planet. The other planet was Earth. Yes, they discovered us. Now that's a switch. In my pursuit to find a publisher, I found that I was gathering enough rejection slips to wallpaper my house. Since, my wife felt that the rejection slip pattern did not fit the decor, I decided it was time for a different approach to this publising game. So, Doctor Lee Shargel, Top Secret NASA scientist was born.

I decided that the best way to get the book published was to make the slightest inference that it just might be real. Lo and behold, the New Age publishers were beating down my door. I secured a publisher and a nice (if not small) advance check. I was ready to meet the world as a fictional Top Secret NASA scientist and holder of a PhD in Egyptian Quantum Mechanics. (That degree was made up in a pinch, but it, too, worked) I got an agent and a manager who were only to eager to cash in on the UFO craze. But first it required a plan.

#11. Havana Residents Claim Having Seen UFO (SOURCE: Prensa Latina)

HAVANA, May 18 (PL) - In the surroundings of EXPOCUBA, a fairground located in the capital city municipality of Boyeros, several persons claimed having witnessed the presence of a UFO, according to an article appearing in the local press.

According to the Juventud Rebelde newspaper, residents of the site witnessed the descent of an alleged UFO (unidentified flying object) on Saturday, May 8, without this claim having been scientifically substantiated.

Witnesses claim that around 10:00 a.m., a small oval-shaped vessel, silver-colored and with a metallic tail, landed in open field encircled by trees on the El Pedregal farm, located in the surrounds of EXPOCUBA southeast of the city of Havana.

"I was tidying the shelves when a bright light came through the window. It was like a glowing ball with a tail in its lower section. I showed it to my mother quickly and ran outside to see where it would fall," said Raul Beltran, 17, who claims having been at the site until the UFO took off once more. "It lifted off rather perpendicularly and then left through the palm trees. It didn't make any noise nor issue any smoke. The only thing I'm sure of is its size: more or less the size of a pickup truck tire, or thereabouts."

"When my son showed it to me, I thought it was a kite or a parachutist, since skydivers drop over EXPOCUBA every so often! After, as it came down, I realized that it could be nothing of the sort, since it was smaller and glowed a lot. It looked like a mirror,"said Odalis, Raul Beltran's mother.
