Your points about the unlikelihood of hominids evolving separately are
valid. But the solution to the mystery is much simpler.

UFO stories are made up by people whose chief contact with science fiction
is via comic-books. In comic-books, the vision of "Man: 10,000,000 A.D."
is
of a diminutive character with an oversized head and a thin, frail body.
After a while, comic-book artists started depicting aliens in this manner
to
convey that they were "more evolved" than humans. And so we have the
modern
image of the Grey.

Well I do think that the grey aliens are a cover story to hide the fact
that aliens look as we do, and if that was known then everyone
might suspect everyone else of being an alien, or they might
get paramoid and think that the government had been taken
over by aliens. Or something.

Heck not only do aliens look like we do, but many of us probably
came from out there ourselves, either by ancestry or reincarnation.

In fact we are experiencing the long slow invasion of the planet
which began about 10,000 years ago from the most unlikely place.

A clue to where that is, is in this graph, bottom right.
