Why would respected documentarians insert UFO footage into the most
serious story in history, and then leave it to the likes of an
unknown like me to discover and announce their insertions years later?

Unfortunately they can be interpreted as a large flying insect probably a
hornet on the windscreen which only looks like a grey metallic disk because
it's out of focus, the fact that it moves around going in and out of
visibility (it goes black at one stage) is just how it hovered about the
screen. the trail exists because the stupid creature is trying to sting the
car windshield. When the car starts moving the insect flies away IMO it is
nothing more than an irate hornet having a tissy fit with the car
windshield, it appearance and movements are entirly consistant with that
interpretation.
