Note that these dreams existed before flying
saucers. In the old days people dreamed about
demons, faeries, or whatever else the local
culture believed was responsible for nocturnal
visits.

The alien abduction dream is mostly an American
cultural phenomenon. Most of the rest of the
world still dreams about the other stuff, not
aliens.

Also note that the descriptions of the "aliens"
given by the "abductees" has evolved over time
to reflect current science fiction art.

In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know
that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,'
and then they actually change their minds and you never
hear that old view from them again.  They really do it.
It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists
are human and change is sometimes painful.  But it happens
every day.  I cannot recall the last time something like
that happened in politics or religion.
