Note that these dreams existed before flying
saucers. In the old days people dreamed about
demons, faeries, or whatever else the local
culture believed was responsible for nocturnal
visits.
The alien abduction dream is mostly an American
cultural phenomenon. Most of the rest of the
world still dreams about the other stuff, not
aliens.
Also note that the descriptions of the "aliens"
given by the "abductees" has evolved over time
to reflect current science fiction art.
