My understanding is that the death ray weapons didn't work too well.
They made our air crews ill for a while, that's all.

They had to use the 'death rays', probably based on designs by Marconi,
because of the weight restriction.  Machine guns, cannons, and bombs
were far too heavy.

There is speculation that they were of extraterrestrial origin as well.
 But seem to be seen, however, only within several thousand miles of
Germany.

At least only within several thousand miles of Germany during WWII.
SR-71 pilots have reported seeing them since in other locations.

There is speculation they may be 'ball lightening' but they seem to
show intelligent operation, not random motion.
