I am certain that if a race of beings from another planet were truly
concerned about the fate of human kind on this planet, and they knew
we were heading for a real disaster, I believe they would be doing
something effective about it.

Why? The world's super powers and all of the governments have known
for almost 50 years that the human race was headed for extinction and
that our biosphere is nearly destroyed, and would soon be unfit for
life.

They didn't do anything to relieve the problem, and in fact have done
everything in their power to accelerate human extinction.

So, what should a group of ETs step in and fix everything that human
beings REFUSE to change, eh?????????????????????????

Well if in the scheme of things

The reality is that the survival of the human race is only important to the
human race. The Universe can get along just fine without the human race.

One wonders why didn't the ETs (those who had the desire to) land and
take over this Earth. Not that seeing an ET war would be a nice thing, to
see or undergo.
There has been the warning, that once we do have intergalactic travel
available to us - such confrontations are open to us.
ie. That with our current primitive attitudes will not be tolerated by other
races and intelligences.

What is important to note is that the current philosophy of the human race
is simply defined as 'war kill, war kill, war kill'. Obviously our human
culture & life-philosophy would not be embraced by other off-world cultures
where life and living is their only reason to exist.

we are no more than a colony of insects, our
destiny is to serve the queen bee. IOW to create a seed which can arise
again from the ashes. From the point of view of our leaders, if this is the
inevitable future of humankind, our destiny in the Universe, the law of
nature. Then there is no point in saving the planet, particularly if our
leaders know our future in the stars is already assured,

Who assured your future in the Stars, when you can't even get along together
on Earth, eh?

the time for the
death of this planet will come eventually may as well run it into the ground
it's well past it's prime and ripe for the plucking :)

In another 50 years Earth will be totally inhabitable, so it's safe to say
Earth is already junked by it's inhabitants. So who'd want them in space
consuming everything, killing all life and wrecking planets?

Mankind should not be labelled as just one person - ie. I sincerely believe
that the average person just wants to be left alone to live in peace, and
not be bothered by the violent, warmongers of our society.
And that people generally are aware of the environment and how important it is
to us - that it is our corporations and industries who rape and spoil the air,
water and land for the rest of us. The ordinary person in the street feels
powerless to face up against these giants.
Our 'leaders' are directly responsible for the state of the world - they
have the office to change things for the better.
