Question: What level of proof is adequate proof, then?

snip Stanton Friedman's wishful thinking <

I think we all must know, deep down, that there is an abundance of life
throughout the Universe. Religious nuts may subscribe to the fable of
creation, that we are "special" and that we are the sole inheritors of the
Cosmos, but logic tells a different story. I also believe that the Earth has
been visited in the past by extraterrestrial being and may still be visited
today. Grainy photographs and visual sightings may indicate this, but
cannot be taken as absolute proof. To me, proof means a piece of
artificially molded or manufactured structure, composed of a mixture of
metals or plastics unknown or at least unused here on Earth, including
markings which, at the present, would be undecipherable.

With all the proclaimed abductions, not one of the abductees returned with a
ballpoint pen or a towel or anything that could be analyzed and verified to
be of Alien origin. How about a photograph of the inside of the UFO, with
the subject posing with the Aliens. How about a copy of a UFO operations
manual, in their language, or a napkin.

OK, we got Roswell, but all the evidence disappeared. Not one shred of
metal, not even one photograph. Repeated subsequent combing of the area
with sophisticated metal detectors , as late as 2002, turned up nothing.
Any of the so-called evidence has been challenged and discredited by the
Government and there is nothing that would lend credence to the entire
episode, except that it put Roswell on the map as a questionable tourist
attraction and inducing involuntary drowsiness via some third-rate TV
documentaries.

We are not ready for contact. Almost every sighting includes a pursuit of
the UFO(s) by military jets, an act of aggression, by any interpretation. If
the pilots could lock onto one, they in all likelihood would fire a missile
at the UFO. I don't think that in itself would harm the UFOs, because they
must know our immature behavior, mental state and intentions, and therefore
apply the appropriate defense mechanisms. However, their retaliation to
such an act may not be beneficial to our health (see Hiroshima & Nagasaki).

I have read a lot about the secret research supposedly conducted by various
Governments on captured UFOs. In every case, the objective of cracking the
mystery of their propulsion systems was made synonymous with military
superiority, but not once was mention made of the benefit mankind would
derive from a peaceful application of such a gift.

Howdy, Hagar. It's always great to see you here in newsgroups.
Have you studied this ... http://savefile.com/projects/239228

If "they" are here and observing humanity's progress, they may decide just
to let us self-destruct, rather than enable us to do the same thing to
future planets we may be able to visit, if we were able to obtain and
decipher their advanced technology.

Yeah, some of them might think like that.
Others might be working for the wonderful potentials.
