There are very well auhenticated cases like the UFOs over Phoenix. The
UFO seemed to have the shape of either a B2 or an F117 it was difficult
to tell from the pictures. The shape was guesses out using the
occlusion of stars. At that time niether aircraft "existed". Thousands
of people saw it and were subsequently fobbed off.

If you're right, and there are good reasons to think you are, then
these were at the time top secret projects. Easy to understand why
the true identification was held back at that time.

There are only 2 explanations for secrecy.

1) The UFO are real extraterrestrial spacecraft - Hardly likely for a
variety of reasons.

Agreed

2) The military know perfectly well what they are and in fact own them.

Logical

There is simply no other plausable explanation. If they were simply the
product of overvivid imaginations the military would never be involved
at all.

I believe that UFOs are a threat to democracy.

Hmmm...

We go to our elected
representatives for an account of how our money is being spent. All
these projects are paid for using black slush fuinds that our elected
representatives never see.

Well, most of our reps anyway. There are usually a select few that
are let in on the secrets. Closed door Congessional oversight. But
this briefings are held in strictest confidence. So while the public
can't share in the secrets, at least some of reps can, in theory
anyway, represent us.

There are, of course, some say that _some_ projects *somehow* manage
to slip through unsupervised...

They are for the most part a complete waste of money. The B2 cost $1e9
per bird. Auora a hypersonic airplane is also a complete waste of
money.

POV that depends on how important national defense is to you.

OK UFOs are a waste of money but they are not actually
dangerous.

So far, the only only danger I can see is to grain and corn crops in
England.

Much more dangerous is the research being done on disease pathogens.
The common cold has in fact evolved not to kill us. A snuffy nost and
"should I go to work of not?" is fitness, it enables the virus to
spread. A genetically engineered "cold" could be lethal. Of couse such
research is not being done.

Of course not! Persish the thought!
