Well it's only "way out there"  because we don't understand how they did it.
However neither can we prove it to be impossible.

There are all sorts of possibilities, maybe they travel interdimentionally
so never need to travel in space at all, or maybe the life forms are immune
to radioactivity?

There are creatures on Earth  that can take huge amounts of radioactivity
e.g :-

"some species of cockroaches are immune to levels of radioactivity, that
would be lethal to humans. Certain cockroaches can also survive up to a week
after losing their head; they die only from dehydration, for they have no
mouth with which to drink water!"

It's only "way out there" because as Human Beings we are weak and inferior
even to many of the creatures on our own planet. The Cockroaches will
inherit the earth after we wipe ourselves out in a nuclear holocaust.
