Well apart from the fact that many police officers often share a similar
social background to the criminals though obviously choose a different path.
The Police often rely on information given by informants (many of whom are
still criminals themselves) There have also been cases of reformed bank
robbers who have gone into crime consultancy and been very good at it.  And
of course the most reliable and best criminal evidence of all is a
confession.

So actually criminals usually supply the best evidence in criminal cases :)
