Douglas MacArthur, in a speech given to the United States Military
Academy on May 12, 1962 stated, "You now face a new world, a world of
change. We speak in strange terms, of harnessing the cosmic energy, of
ultimate conflict between a united human race and the sinister forces
of some other planetary galaxy."

Listen, if ET existed and was "sinister" there is a very simple way to
take over Earth.

Look for something that sounds like "photo editor" or
something similar.

No not some super sophisticated war machine, just AI
and a telegenic avotar.

I already told you all this already.
All you need is some simple computer program.
Like a jpeg file but it is still in Netscape when you open
it, not in the graphics program. You can't edit it from within the
internet browser.

You need a bit more than that. You need an entity which will pass the
so called Turing test and be indistingishable from a human, so if you
saw the candidate on the box you could not tell the difference between
an avotar and a human. You talk about JPEG (do you mean MPEG?) and it
is indeed true that all the entries for the Loebner prize (the closest
approach to Turing) use databases, with the chatterboxes building up a
database of human input. If you say "my name is Joe Blogs" it will put
this on the database, and will know you as Joe Blogs.

The man who created "George" the current Loebner winner, thinks that we
will have full Turing machines by 2016 (the next 10 years). I have
shown in my postings to "Creating Artificial Intelligence" and
Comp.ai,nat-lang that the ability to translate, what I call "bueno
espagnol". We can see that this is necessary by the following.

The boat goesthrough the lock - El barco attravesta una cerradura. Now
"cerradura" means lock in the sense of lock and key so it is a nonsense
sentence, as is the elastic station - la estacion de ressorte (should
be primavera). The sre fire way to beat T is to input a sentence which
is nonsense but grammatically correct. With BE can you say T would be
passed. Yes because we could datamine any database without restriction.
There are theories such as Latent Semantic Analysis which enable us to
do this. 2016 may be opptimistic, perhaps 2021 but the research route
is mapped out as of now.

What the social consequences will be I really cannot imagine. Certainly
it is hard to see us getting into the mess of Iraq. In fact there is
evidence that Bush in fact ignored facts. Hardly surprising for one who
believes in Intelligent Design!

That is after all what you need to become
President.

I agree the President could really be a jpeg file, then what I would
suggest doing
is "save as" from Netscape, onto the hard drive as a jpeg
file. Then open it from the hard drive and if there is a
program loaded on the computer that can handle jpegs, it will open. Then
it should be able to be edited from there. If you can do that, maybe we
can get out of this budget deficit, the iraq problem, the korea problem,
and a couple of others.
