Listen, if ET existed and was "sinister" there is a very simple way
to take over Earth. No not some super sophisticated war machine,
just AI and a telegenic avotar. That is after all what you need to
become President.

What makes you think they haven't taken over already?
ie. past leaders taken over and mind controlled - like Hitler was?

Because it's a whole lot easier just to blow up the planet and take
you with it.

Current events dictate that the obvious method doesn't work - how
wars are fought on earth.

The obvious method may seem to work for you - in which things are
simplistic - for you to stick with a Black and White attitude to
everything, so that you can stick round pegs into round holes for your
kind of thinking, or lack of it.

It's like the US attitude towards Iraq, Vietnam, etc.
Just send the troops in, they'll sort everything out - and they don't
and can't. It was a no-win situation to start off with.

There is no simple way to take over this earth, because of the
annoying species on it - humans.
