Depends on which witness you are talking about.

Remember, in July, 1947, no one had the slightest idea what a "flying
saucer" should look like.  The newspapers were full of "sightings"
from all over the nation ever since Arnold's story hit the papers in
late June.  Two days before Roswell, a farmer in Circleville Ohio
turned a RAWIN as a "flying disk", but this one had a manufacturer's
name on it, unlike the one that Brazel found.

Brazel, and Jesse Marcel, simply figured that they had stumbled across
what had been causing all the excitement.  

And where _is_ the
"disc" that was supposedly found along with the balloon,
anyway?

As far as Marcel was concerned, the "disk" was the unidentifiable foil
and sticks.  It was obvious that whatever it was, it came from the
sky.  And since many reports in the press mentioned that "it" was
shiny, the foil no doubt is what interested Marcel.
