Since I agree with you, I'll point this out: I believe that the term
is "backpedal," as in "reversing one's direction on a direct-drive
pedal-powered vehicle by pedaling backwards."

Back peddling would be, I don't know, offering used spinal cords for
sale or something.

Another English lesson. I knew forgetting the apple would piss you off. You 
see, he was peddling his opinion, much like people peddle their wares. He 
backed out of it, thus he back peddled. I don't really see a correlation 
between a vehicle and the Bush administration as you suggest. Although one 
could say Bush is on the road to destruction, thereby suggesting he's in 
some kind of vehicle. Yet, he's to friggin lazy to walk.

While obviously you're right about the common usage of the term, there are 
alternatives. Not everything is written in stone. Even if I'm the only one 
using it, I just like it better. Curious, I find it odd that the only reason 
you pointed it out is because you agree with me.
