Consider, we do not communicate meaningfully with animals.

We can't even understand autistic minds - despite their humanity,
despite that there are those that are superior in some ways to average
minds.

We have significant difficulty understanding the minds of ancient
people and their motivation.

We fight one another over slight differences of thought - even when we
understand fully what another is thinking.

Given the tremendous ability of even early 21st century technology to
avoid detection - its is very likely that any alien presence thousands
if not millions of years in advance of us would be totally
undetectable by humans.

It is also likely that they would have no more interest in shaping the
behavior of humans than humans have in shaping the behavior of wild
animals.

Unless of course they wanted to domesticate us for some purpose - but
even here we can see that soon even we will have technology that will
permit us to replicate organic systems at will.

Clearly a tech 1,000s to 1,000,000s of years in advance of us, would
be capable of far more!

So, all they need do is study us covertly without detection - create
accurate computer models.

desired populations on modified worlds - to achieve whatever purposes
they have in domesticating us.

Even so, with this approach, there may still be need a wild
'reference' population - from which to draw from.

Yet, the abilities of human nanotech near term to survey at the
molecular level living organisms without any detectable effect on that
organisim - suggest that any invasive procedure by an alien tech
thousands and millions of years in advance of us - would be equally
undetectable - and modification of our behavior if desired for
continuation of the species - would be wrought directly by direct
action on our minds by viruses that interacted with synapes
directly.

Consider, that less than 100 years from today it is very likely that
humans will have developed nanotech to the point where every organism
on the planet is 'infected' by a benign artificial virus.  Each virus
reports the state of every organism back to a distributed computer
network.  This virus would be carried by all organisms and be totally
undetected by them.  Yet desireable behaviors - including thoughts -
would be rewarded directly with pleasure - from the cellular level on
up - while undesireable behaviors - including thoughts - would be
negatively rewarded in the same manner.  Coming from the cellular
level - such values would seem a natural consequence of reality - and
form the very fabric of not only our being - but the being of the
natural world.

This is not spirituality - though much of the terminology and feelings
associated with spirituality would apply - it is merely emergent
behavior based on a consistent system of reward to all creatures
everywhere.

In the face of this immense technical capacity which will be available
to humans within a generation - I find it very unlikely that aliens if
they are present at all would need to operate in a way that is
detectable no matter what their goals.

Consider how someone with a few of the abilities humans can foresee
having in 100 years or less might raise $10 billion covertly in a few
days.  First, an ad agency exec wakes up with the idea implanted
directly in his brain by nanotech of starting a company that
advertises some slogan.  He spends a few thousand dollars of his own
money to create a company, open an account, and run advertising on
stations and internet around the world.  It might be a slogan "Give 10
and Win!" followed by an 800 number.  Then, after the ad is
circulating in the global information environment, another 1 billion
people who have $10 to spare, awake the next day and are triggered to
give $10 to the 800 number and gain intense pleasure doing so.  In
fact, they give $10 every other day or so - to gain this pleasure.  In
this way, a steady stream of $10s of billions of dollars per month is
produced - without much effort.  Since there is only about $2 trillion

Since money supply (value of deposits) is independent currency in
circulation and since economic activity (value of everyone's efforts)
depends on availability of currency - significant control may be
obtained without any notice in a few weeks.

You can see that significant control of the world's banking system may
be obtained very quickly.  haha - and this is just what I came up with
in a few minutes.  A superior alien intelligence could do more - if
they wished - likely without any detectable outcome at all. (infecting
all to forget that they even saw the triggering advertisement, or to
create an amnesia among regulators and so forth - or penetrating the
programs of the banking systems computers - would likely be far easier
to achieve - though the differences in complexity are likely small
compared to the vast capacity of a technology 1000s to millions of
years in advance of ours with billions to trillions of worlds already
explored.

No, in light of what is likely possible to an alien intelligence, the
appearance of ships to modify public opinion, or capture of humans and
probing them in highly sexual ways - is most likely to be the product
of fantasy (inkblot tests) or the product of a covert human effort at
global control - at our present level of technical competence.

The rise of the technologies I describe will impose risks far greater
than nuclear or environmental threats we face today - and given the
nature of covert agencies and their operation in the modern world -
will be far more difficult to address.  haha - here is where we will
need alien help if such is available.  But counting on that is like an
ant counting on the good will and attention of a monkey in the jungle
to survive.  Its not reasonable that this will happen.

In a more esoteric vein, our view of the world may be very limited
when compared to ultimate reality.

These images appear to move - yet they do not.  To convince yourself
of this, print them out on a piece of paper and look at them.  They do
not move.  They only appear to move.  They in fact appear to move in
response to how we see them.

This is a more sophisticated form of inkblot test - that operate at a
physiological rather than a psychological level.

This may be a metaphor for reality.

The world seems to move in meaningful ways around us.

Yet, there is only now.   The past is a memory - a mental construct.
The future is an expectation - another mental construct.  How we view
now - is to a large extent - a mental construct as well.  Many
illusions are based on the fact that people cannot see what they don't
expect to see - seeing instead what they expect.

That is, we interact more with the ideas we have about reality - than
reality itself.   Change your mind about something and your reality
changes - this is true at many levels.   What if were ultimately true
of ALL things at the quantum level?

With this in mind the first anamalous motion image is very telling.
It is a field of points across which waves seem to flow.  Quantum
reality rests upon the wave-particle duality of nature.  While the
math that described quantum reality is very good looking at the
configuration of things - it takes a special effort to create an
evolution operator - which is usually added in and does not occur
naturally.  This aspect of the math dimly reflects what I said earlier
- about past and future not existing - only the present exists.  There
is also the double slit experiment - which sees reality as waves when
viewed one way - but when viewed another way - sees the same reality
as particles - this dimly reflects the reality that the way we see now
- is impacted by our ideas about now.

This is merely a lot of hand-waving - but it seems that it is likely
that some day we may percieve the universe significantly differently
than we do today.  The universe as a stationary thing upon which we
project our beliefs - beliefs that cause us to percieve the universe -
in every detail - and our timeline in it - in specific ways.

This may be possible for intelligences that are in advance of us in
ways that we would not consider technical.  Technology in this view
may be consider a form of idol worship.  We have a fixed belief system
about reality - and so - there emerges within the context of that
belief system - a view of ourselves - and a technology that operates
on those beliefs in consistent and logical ways - but just like any
other dream - the dream is not always consistent - intruded upon by a
larger reality not contained of in the dream philosophy we accept as
real
