I�ve been observing debunkers on these NGs for at least two years
now.  They�ve always raised my curiosity, especially the more empty-
headed variety who don�t even make an attempt at doing less than name
calling, throwing insults or making inappropriate responses to out-of-
context, or snipped posts to make some questionable point.
Summed up, debunkers are delusional.

Most of them display characteristics of abused children. Abused
children, once adults simply cannot stand being ignored. They will go
to any length to get attention. No amount of verbal abuse will stop
them, no sane or sensible argument, or even pleading will stop them,
nothing can stop them from striking out, once they see you as
reasonable bate, not even violence, the least of all violence, if you
could exact it upon them. They derive great satisfaction in what they
do. It�s a need.

The delusional aspect of debunkers is that they don�t realize just how
confusing most of us find them. They sincerely think they are fucking
others over, or fucking up one�s day, or winning somehow in a war of
words---a war that is one-sided---their own. Words are not something
they can manage to compose very well.

They hang out in these NGs like a clique of imbeciles, joining forces,
exchanging congratulations, and bragging about imaginary kills.
Some are more dedicated than others, and go to extremes, especially if
they are denied the idea that the person under attack, really doesn�t
give a damn. These types of debunkers are relentless and vigilant,
spending much time in their effort to denigrate or chastise or name
call and insult posters who they hit on as targets. Nothing is beyond
contempt in the extent they are willing to go to hit on a prey.
Debunkers have no morals, least of all a conscience.
They are delusional, also, in that they think others see them as doing
some kind of humane service, or see them as truth mongers, when the
forces behind their acts are anything but truth. But, they sincerely
believe they are doing good. Of course, what they are doing is
misplacing their own personal hate of themselves and using it upon
others. Possibly they are getting even for never having been accepted
in a normal society. Or, as abused children, never found any kind of
helpful therapy to get over it.
Debunkers are the bane of NGs. They are delusional and misguided and
obsessed with their need to attack others.

To them, you care if you show no response, and you care if you do. As
a victim of debunkers, it�s very important that you care. They need to
feel they are getting to you. They need to feel that they are
upsetting you. If you disagree and say you don�t care, or that they�re
not upsetting you, they will call you a liar, and work harder at it.

Debunkers are a maniacal mix of misfits with about as much going for
them as a castrated bull.
Even the more intelligent ones, male or female, keep coming back to
give more abuse. They scout what you post, and pounce. They work in
packs and separately. They are having fun.
Unfortunately, even the fun they have is delusional. Eventually, they
become convinced of what becomes a mission, an agenda, to strike and
kill anyone who posts something that is contrary to what they believe,
or prefer to believe, or simply out of because of who said it, not
what is said.
They don�t understand that the care most of us have, is the disruption
they create in the NGs, not the personal, unwarranted, as well as
ludicrous attacks. I mean you really can�t be affronted by morons who
make absolutely no sense in their response to your posts.
You can�t be offended when you realize you are dealing with someone
suffering some kind of delusion, of some sort.
Whether debunkers come in the guise of trolls, those who flame, or
skeptics, the type described here is unsuccessful. In fact, if they
had any brains, they�d be embarrassed.
Ever notice how they think they are being funny, but the only people
laughing are other debunkers? Ever notice how they think they�ve made
some great point or charge of character, and the only ones agreeing
are other debunkers?
Art is right in wishing for better debunkers. But it�s not going to
happen. Debunkers are debunkers to be debunkers. They want to destroy
any vestige of reasonable debate. Showing them that you care is best
done by understanding these things about them.
You can�t win over them, because they have the delusion that they have
won, even as they fail miserably. You can ignore them, but that�s no
guarantee that they will leave you alone, no more than a starving,
carnivorous beast can avoid available flesh when hungry.
They are animals. They have the instinct of animals. And, they have
the delusion of thinking they qualify as humans.
Sure they will try to make me pay for daring to write this post. And,
no matter how I re-act, no matter what I say, or don�t say, they will
feel vindicated each and every time they attack in the false belief
that I care, or that you care. They will go to extremes. They can�t
help it. They need to do it like a heron addict needs a fix. They are
that delusional. Now, if only they could get my name right!

I�m not sure if I�d consider them delusional as I would scared out of
their wits. People tend to attack and try to discount those things
that they fear or can�t understand. Acknowledging the existence aliens
challenges some very deeply held beliefs and threatens the very
foundation on which many have built their lives. Acknowledging the
existence of aliens would force them to change their worldview, their
religious views, their political views, and many other things they�ve
simply accepted as �truth� from childhood. That scares them and they
will do whatever it takes to discredit those who bring forward or who
perpetuate that threat. Read a lot of the debunkers posts and you�ll
see pure, unadulterated fear induced babbling.
