DEBUNKERS Must...

<snip regurgigabble>

Hey, Artie/Gary, welcome back! When were you released? Sorry
to see the meds didn't take...

Ditto.  Good luck with the electroshock therapy.  If that doesn't take,
then you know what they say, "Lobotomy sends them home."

Actually, "...sends them home happy".

I'll accept that and put it down to poor memory.  It's been quite a
while since I saw that.  I have ice picks, and I have hammers.  I would
lend same to someone less queasy to help Artie go home happy.

I only added "happy" because of the well-known effects of a
lobotomy; I don't remember seeing any of it until I read
your post.

It was a quote from a movie, where a doctor demonstrates how quickly he
can perform lobotomies on mental patients.  The procedure makes me
cringe to think about, but it looked something like driving an ice pick
into the eye socket, and wiggling it around.  After a bit of searching,
I found this clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79i64XcQrzo.  In case
you don't watch this disturbing bit, the quote was actually "Lobotomy
gets 'em home."

I know about the procedure; there was a doctor who toured
the country back in the '50s performing it, IIRC as an
alternative to massive electroshock "therapy".

Of course, beating them to "drive out the devils" was also
once popular...

It sure didn't work on me.  I just learned a few more triggers, which gave me a feeling of power over the beater.  Somehow, it didn't occur to me as a child that triggering someone to beat me wasn't in my best interests.

Hey, Artie/Gary? Be Happy!

Artie, watch the clip, and consider whether this could be a helpful
procedure for you.

He might still be an idiot, but he'd be a *happy* idiot.

After a review of the movie, and reading a description of a book by someone who had the procedure, I don't think the patients ended up very happy.  Maybe Artie is better off without the ice pick.
