Alright, I tried to install Mandrake 9.1, but the /dev/hdc (CD-ROM)

Might be the old CD-ROM not wanting the burned CD, but I get the feeling
that this System is not going to do well with Linux :( (I even opened
the CD-ROM Drive, and manually cleaned the Laser lens)

Oh well, I'm going to get it a brand new CD/DVD Drive, and giving it one
last shot next week.
(I really WANT Linux on it *g*)
But if it's still not working, then I'm out of Ideas and am going to
install good old, ancient NT once it arrives.

Can't afford having my new flagship sitting around useless, those
AthlonMP's need to start doing their job ;)

It's a pity it's still so incredibly difficult to get Linux up and
running right. In the same time I spent setting up Linux (or trying to)
on 3 machines alone, I could have gotten many many Windows Boxes linked
up & crunching :(

Once it works I really like it, but the way to get there is a really
painful road, and sometimes ends in a deadlock.

FalconFly,

If you have a ftp server or even a web server, try the ftp or http
install. You will need to make a boot floppy and possibly a devices floppy
so that the install kernel can talk to your hardware.

Be sure to install two kernels if you can. One with and one without SMP in
its name. Only the SMP kernel can use both processors but the single
processor one should work and let you roll your own SMP kernel.

<plug>
Oh, I've just switched to Gentoo.
</plug>.
