Yes, but after single-celled organisms appeared, some 600 million
years after the formation of the Earth, single-celled organisms were
the only forms of life for the next 2500--3000 million years.

Is it difficult for multicellular organisms to evolve from
single-celled organisms or was the Earth unlucky?  We do not know.
